Parade

When SHI sponsored its first parade held during Celebration 1982, Native peoples were emerging from a long period of oppression and much of the culture had gone underground. The parade through Juneau was conceived as a way to show the public that we had survived and that we were here to stay. The parade tradition has continued to this day, and spectators are welcome to watch the procession, which occurs on the last day of Celebration in downtown Juneau.
