Since 1980, SHI has been a leader in protecting Indigenous rights, promoting education and art, and preserving Indigenous culture and languages. We do so through numerous programs that promote Southeast Alaska Native cultures, sponsor research and academic publications, and provide opportunities to improve cross-cultural understanding.

Located in the center of downtown Juneau, Alaska, SHI’s headquarters is in the Walter Soboleff Building, adjacent to Atnané Hít, the Sealaska Heritage Arts Campus, and the Indigenous Science Building.
